How to Apply

Current testing opportunity

The City of Chandler Human Resources Department will begin accepting online applications for Police Officer Recruit and Lateral Police Officer on Wednesday, January 16, 2013. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, January 30, 2013.  Only the first 600 applications will be accepted. This recruitment is to establish an eligibility list for current and future openings.

Applications must be submitted through the City of Chandler website correctly to be admitted into the written test.  Applicants will need to pass all three parts of the written test (video, grammar, and report writing) and physical agility test (1.5 mile run, push-ups, and sit ups) in order to be eligible to proceed in the selection process. Applicants will need to present a valid form of government issued identification and a complete background packet when they arrive to the test.   All applicants who are veterans will need to bring a copy of their DD-214 to the written test to receive your 5 veteran’s points.

Test will be held February 9th  in the morning and afternoon.

Out of state applicants will be tested on February 9th in the morning, with Physical Agility Testing in the afternoon.

Applicants will be notified by email of their testing date and time.

Once the written test is complete and graded, the results will be posted on the Chandler PD website.  Invitations will be sent out by email for the Physical Agility Test to those who passed all three portions of the written test.  Applicants will be invited for an oral board interview after a review of the background packets.  The background investigators will contact the applicants as they progress.  It is not necessary to contact the background investigator unless directed to do so.

Out of State Applicants

Out of state applicants will take the written test on February 9th  and the Physical Agility Test in the afternoon on the same day.  After a review of the applicants background, they will be invited back to an oral board, background interview, command board and possibly polygraph at a future date.  The out of state applicants will be offered the option of testing with the in-state applicants throughout the process.  The out of state applicants who make it to this point will be placed on an eligibility list with the in-state applicants and will then be considered for background investigation.

Background Questionnaire

Important reminders for testing

  • You must be 21 years of age at the time of the written test;
  • Bring picture ID to the testing site. If you do not have a picture ID, you will not be allowed into the testing site;
  • You must bring a completed and notarized Background Questionnaire to be admitted to the test.
  • Do not bring any unnecessary items to the testing center to include purses, backpacks, briefcases, cameras, recorders, weapons, etc;
  • Applicants must obtain a passing score on each step of the testing procedure to remain eligible in the selection process;
  • Should an applicant fail any portion they will be removed from consideration and will need to re-apply in the next recruitment;
  • The application process may vary if determined necessary

The selection process is very competitive and may take 2-3 months to complete. We only consider the most highly qualified applicants.

Arizona POST Certified Officer Applicants

In order to apply as an AZPOST certified lateral officer you must be currently employed as an Arizona state certified police officer or have resigned from an Arizona police agency while in good standing. You must have at least one year of patrol work experience from date of completing field training, to be given consideration as a lateral officer.Applicants currently certified by AZPOST will not be required to attend the academy.

Out of State Lateral Police Officer Applicants

Out-of state officers must be currently employed as a certified police officer or have resigned from a police agency while in good standing. You must have at least one year of patrol work experience from date of completing field training, to be given consideration as a lateral officer. Out of state lateral officers may be able to gain AZPOST certification through the waiver process, and if successfully completed, will not have to attend an academy.
