Citizen Observer Program

What is the Citizen Observer Program?

The Chandler Police Department offers the citizens of Chandler the opportunity to observe with a Police Officer, Dispatcher, ID Technician or Park Ranger. Observing with a Police Officer would entail going out on patrol with the officer for a maximum of 5 hours (unless pre-approved by a Field Operations command/officer designee), taking calls for service, making citizen contacts and other daily duties. Observing with a Dispatcher would consist of a tour of the Communications Center,  then sitting with the Dispatcher as calls for service are processed. Observations of ID Technicians and Park Rangers are also available to experience the daily functions that they perform.

How to Apply for a Ride-Along or Tour of Observation

A waiver of liability must be completed, signed and submitted to the Records Unit. The signature on the waiver must be either witnessed by a Chandler Police Department employee or notarized. The Waiver of Liability can be downloaded or picked up at the Main Chandler Police Department lobby, 250 E. Chicago St. You will then be notified if your application for observation has been approved along with the scheduled date and time. You must be 18 years of age, and observations are allowed only once in a 12 month period. For additional questions, contact the Records Unit at 480-782-4000.
