Over the years, the Forensic Services Section has distinguished itself in several ways. The implementation of digital crime scene imaging and digital photography established Chandler PD as the pioneer in crime scene photography internationally. Numerous articles and several television specials have brought attention to Chandler PD and the accolades since then have been too numerous to list.
Chandler PD uses an Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS). AFIS allows the unit technicians to directly query both the Arizona and FBI fingerprint databases for suspect fingerprints left at crime scenes. Crime scene fingerprints are scanned into AFIS and searches of these data bases for a matching suspect's fingerprints launched. This allows the unit, and consequently the department as a whole, to solve a much larger number of crimes committed in our city.
Chandler PD has a Forensic Science Laboratory where the analysis of dangerous drugs and narcotics are performed. This laboratory also performs blood analysis in the investigations of alchohol-related crimes, including driving under the influence.
