Cadet: Must have the ability to acquire and apply knowledge of police methods, practices, and procedures, and the City's geography and location of important buildings.
Officer: Must have a working knowledge of, and ability to apply: police methods, practices, and procedures; Departmental rules and regulations; City geography or ability to acquire this knowledge rapidly; crime patterns and trends; conflict management techniques; and skill in the use of firearms.
Both positions: Ability to deal courteously, but firmly with the general public and with people of diverse social and economic backgrounds; to analyze situations and adopt quick, effective and reasonable courses of action with due regard to surrounding hazards and circumstances; to prepare clear and comprehensive reports, and effectively communicate orally and in writing; to perform all physical requirements of the position, and maintain Departmental physical standards; and to maintain composure to operate efficiently under high stress situations.
- Posses a high school diploma or GED certificate by date of application.
- Age 21 no later than date of testing.
- Meet Arizona Police Officer Standards and Training Board (AZPOST) physical health standards.
- Comply with police department policy on disqualifiers.
- Good Moral Character
- Citizen of the United States by date of application.
- Possession of a valid Arizona motor vehicle operator's license by date of hire.
- Education to include courses towards a degree or certification is preferred.
